Presidents Message

Steve Georgoulis

Having worked for more than 35 years in the Facilities Management profession, I have a firsthand appreciation for the challenges and opportunities that we deal with each day. Ours is a somewhat misunderstood profession, but for those that have chosen this career path, it can also be exciting, stressful and fulfilling. I recall watching a football game at the New Orleans Superdome one Monday evening when there was a sudden power outage that stopped the nationally televised event. My first thought was that the Facility Manager of this site is going to be getting a lot of attention and that the situation would be rectified in short order. That is the nature of Facilities Management. When all is going well, we are less visible, when things are not so perfect we become the “go to” folks that must call upon all their resources, human and material, to ensure that the businesses we support are fully operational and able serve their customers.

As an IFMA member since 2002, I have been fortunate to meet and work with many talented, supportive and giving individuals who enjoy the camaraderie and sense of community that being a member of IFMA provides. We are in many ways a family that provides a network of industry professionals that can be relied upon to run ideas or problems by or to simply listen.

As President, it is my hope to continue to expand on the contributions of my predecessors and Board members past and present. As an IFMA member you have access to career resources and networking opportunities that embrace our members and help them to grow and succeed in their chosen roles as FM’s or as service providers who are an important and essential component of our organization..

I look forward to meeting you at one of the many events that our Committees have planned for the coming year.

Kind regards,
Steve Georgoulis, MS, CFM, SFP
